Crypto swap refunds: when they happen and how they work

Most swaps complete without a refund. When one is needed, it is handled by the provider that received your deposit, not by Monivo, because Monivo never holds your funds. This guide covers why refunds happen, what they can cost, and how to get one moving.

Common reasons a swap is refunded

  • The deposit was below the provider's minimum for that pair.
  • A fixed-rate window expired and you declined the new rate.
  • The deposit was sent on a different network than the one quoted.
  • The provider could not complete the trade because liquidity dried up.
  • A compliance review was not completed.

Who processes the refund

Monivo is non-custodial: your deposit goes straight to the provider's address. The provider holds it until it either pays out or returns it. Monivo support can contact the provider for you and track the case, but the provider makes the final decision under its own terms.

What a refund can cost

A refund is sent back as a new blockchain transaction, so a network fee usually applies, and some providers deduct a service fee. You can receive less than you sent. If you add a refund address when creating the swap, the provider can return funds without asking you for one later.

What to send support

  • Your Monivo order ID.
  • The deposit transaction hash.
  • The refund address on the same network you deposited from.
  • Any message the order page showed when it stopped.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a crypto swap refund take?

It depends on the provider and the reason. Simple cases can be processed quickly once a refund address is confirmed; cases under a compliance review take as long as that review takes.

Will I get back the full amount I sent?

Not always. The return transaction carries a network fee, and some providers charge a service fee. The provider's terms decide what is deducted.

Can Monivo refund my swap directly?

No. Monivo never holds customer funds, so it cannot send a refund itself. Our 24/7 live support contacts the provider and follows the case for you.

I sent on the wrong network. Can it be recovered?

Sometimes. Recovery depends on whether the provider controls the same address on that network and is willing to process it. Contact support with the transaction hash as soon as possible.

Need help with an order?

Live support is available 24/7. Have your order ID and deposit transaction hash ready.
