DigiByte (DGB): questions and answers

Every answer below is written from the sources listed at the end of this page, with the date each one was checked.

The question that decides how you read DigiByte

DigiByte's claim is that five mining algorithms make it safer. The honest version of the story is that this claim has been argued about, in public, for a decade.

DigiByte launched in January 2014 into an altcoin landscape where a rented mining pool could swamp a small chain, mine a burst of cheap blocks and leave the remaining miners stuck at an inflated difficulty. The project's answer was not marketing but a difficulty algorithm: DigiShield, activated at block 67,200 within weeks of launch, adjusted difficulty in near real time.

What is still unsettled

The security argument cuts both ways and has never been settled. Supporters say an attacker must beat five algorithms; critics — including prominent figures in other projects — reply that each algorithm individually secures only about a fifth of blocks, and that rentable hashrate makes attacking one of them cheaper than attacking a single-algorithm chain of the same size. Both positions are arguable from the same data.

What this means when you swap DGB

Blocks target roughly fifteen seconds, so DGB transfers usually confirm faster than almost anything else in this list, and fees are negligible. Addresses are Bitcoin-style UTXO addresses; there is no memo field.

The one thing to watch is client version. DigiByte has hard-forked several times for difficulty and algorithm changes, so an old wallet or an exchange integration left behind at a fork can report balances that look wrong. Use a current wallet and confirm the deposit address with the receiving service.

Common DGB questions

How do I swap DigiByte (DGB) instantly on Monivo?
Pick DGB as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. Monivo routes your order to the provider offering the best rate, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no account needed.
Can I swap DGB with no KYC?
Yes. Crypto-to-crypto swaps of DGB on Monivo require no identity verification and no sign-up. Only fiat purchases (card or bank transfer) require KYC, because banks and payment processors mandate it.
Is swapping DigiByte on Monivo non-custodial?
Yes. Monivo never holds your funds. DGB is sent directly to the wallet address you provide, so you stay in control the whole time.
Which network does DGB use here?
Monivo supports DigiByte on the DigiByte network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.
What fees apply when I swap DGB?
Monivo adds zero fees on top. The quote you see already reflects the strongest quote we found across connected providers, including their network and processing costs — all fees are included in the shown amount.
Does mining with five algorithms make DigiByte harder to attack?
That is the project's argument, and it is genuinely disputed. Supporters note an attacker must overcome multiple independent mining markets; critics point out each algorithm secures only about 20% of blocks and hashrate can be rented. There is no settled answer, and you should treat confident claims in either direction with caution.
Why do DigiByte transfers confirm so quickly?
The chain targets about fifteen seconds per block, roughly forty times faster than Bitcoin. Individual confirmations are therefore worth less, so services usually wait for more of them — but the total wait is still typically short.
