Why a no-KYC exchange can still ask for ID

"No KYC" usually means you do not need an account or identity documents to start a swap. It does not mean verification can never happen. The provider executing the trade operates under its own legal obligations and can pause an order for review. Here is why, and what to expect.

What no-KYC means on Monivo

Monivo does not require an account, email or ID upload to start a crypto-to-crypto swap. We see the addresses involved, not your identity. Card and bank purchases are different: they go through regulated payment partners, and banks require identity verification.

Common triggers for a provider check

  • The deposit came from an address linked to sanctions, theft or a darknet market by blockchain analytics.
  • The amount is unusually large for the provider's risk rules.
  • A pattern of orders looks like layering or structuring.
  • The provider is required to review orders in certain jurisdictions.

What happens during a review

The provider holds the deposit and asks for information, sometimes including identity documents or the source of funds. If the review is completed, the swap continues; if not, the provider decides whether funds can be refunded under its terms.

How to reduce the chance of a check

  • Send from a wallet you control rather than straight from a mixing service.
  • Stay within normal amounts for the pair.
  • Compare providers: thresholds and policies differ between them.

Frequently asked questions

If Monivo is no-KYC, why was my swap paused?

Monivo does not ask for ID, but the provider executing your swap can pause any order under its own compliance rules. Our support team can contact the provider and tell you what is needed.

Can I refuse to provide ID?

You can, but the provider then decides what happens to the deposit under its terms, which may include a refund minus fees or holding the funds while the case is reviewed.

Is there any exchange that never checks ID?

No responsible answer can promise that. Any service that converts funds can be asked to review transactions; what differs is how often and when.
