Dash (DASH): questions and answers

Every answer below is written from the sources listed at the end of this page, with the date each one was checked.

The question that decides how you read Dash

Dash's first day produced a mining accident that the project has been explaining in official documentation ever since. What matters is what it chose to do next.

Evan Duffield's account is that he wanted to add anonymity features to Bitcoin and concluded its developers would never accept them. Forking Litecoin's code was the workaround, and the coin arrived in January 2014 under the name Xcoin, renamed Darkcoin within days and Dash in 2015.

What is still unsettled

Whether the instamine still matters is a genuine disagreement. Dash Core Group's own documentation treats it as an explainable accident, revised as recently as 2020; critics treat roughly a tenth of the supply front-loaded to a handful of operators as a permanent feature of the monetary base. Both readings rest on the same facts.

What this means when you swap DASH

Dash is a native coin on its own chain, not a token — do not accept a wrapped 'DASH' on another network unless that is explicitly what you wanted. Blocks target about 2.5 minutes, and InstantSend settles in a second or two when both sides support it.

There is no memo or destination tag. Address formats are Dash-specific; sending to a Bitcoin or Litecoin address, despite the shared code lineage, is not recoverable. PrivateSend mixing is optional and must be used deliberately — an ordinary Dash transaction is as public as a Bitcoin one.

Common DASH questions

How do I swap Dash (DASH) instantly on Monivo?
Pick DASH as the asset you want to receive, choose what you're paying with, paste your wallet address, and confirm. Monivo routes your order to the provider offering the best rate, and most swaps complete in under 10 minutes — no account needed.
Can I swap DASH with no KYC?
Yes. Crypto-to-crypto swaps of DASH on Monivo require no identity verification and no sign-up. Only fiat purchases (card or bank transfer) require KYC, because banks and payment processors mandate it.
Is swapping Dash on Monivo non-custodial?
Yes. Monivo never holds your funds. DASH is sent directly to the wallet address you provide, so you stay in control the whole time.
Which network does DASH use here?
Monivo supports Dash on the DASH network. Always double-check that your receiving wallet supports this network before confirming.
What fees apply when I swap DASH?
Monivo adds zero fees on top. The quote you see already reflects the strongest quote we found across connected providers, including their network and processing costs — all fees are included in the shown amount.
Are Dash transactions private?
Only if you use PrivateSend, which mixes coins deliberately before sending. A normal Dash transaction is fully visible on a public ledger, the same as Bitcoin. The 'Darkcoin' name is history, not a description of default behaviour.
What is a masternode and do I need one?
A masternode is a server backed by a substantial DASH collateral that provides fast-settlement and mixing services and votes on treasury spending. You do not need one to hold, send or swap DASH — it is an infrastructure role, not a user requirement.
