The story behind Dash

Evan Duffield launched the project as XCoin in January 2014, renamed it Darkcoin soon after, and settled on Dash — short for 'digital cash' — in 2015. It pioneered the masternode model, where a second tier of network operators provides services beyond mining in exchange for a share of rewards, and used part of that same reward to fund a self-sustaining development treasury without asking anyone for outside investment.
