About Dai (Ethereum) (DAI)

Stablecoin

Dai (DAI) is a decentralised dollar stablecoin issued by the Maker protocol against on-chain collateral, with its peg maintained through over-collateralisation, automated liquidations and interest-rate policy — no bank account required anywhere in the process.

The story behind Dai (Ethereum)

MakerDAO launched single-collateral Dai in December 2017, backed only by ether locked in a smart contract, and followed it with multi-collateral Dai in 2019, making Dai the first widely used stablecoin without a company custodying dollars in a vault somewhere.

Over time the protocol added USDC and tokenised US Treasuries to its backing, a pragmatic concession that improved stability at the cost of pure decentralisation, and in 2024 it rebranded itself as Sky with USDS positioned as Dai's intended successor token.

What DAI is used for

You would use DAI across DeFi as borrowable dollars, as collateral inside lending markets, or as a stablecoin you can mint yourself, permissionlessly, by locking crypto into a vault rather than asking anyone's permission. The Dai Savings Rate pays holders a yield set by governance, funded out of the protocol's own lending income rather than out of thin air.

Dai (Ethereum) in the market today

DAI is the largest decentralised stablecoin, though still far smaller than USDT or USDC in absolute terms. Its reliance on centralised collateral such as USDC and Treasuries has fuelled a long-running argument inside its own community about how decentralised the project genuinely still is — a debate that goes to the heart of what the token was built to prove in the first place.

Fees and pricing

Monivo does not add a separate platform fee. The quoted receive amount reflects the executing provider's pricing and applicable payout costs. Your sending wallet or exchange may charge its own network or withdrawal fee. The amount shown is an estimate; fixed and floating quotes follow the provider's terms.

Monivo does not add a separate platform fee. Some partner quotes include a small affiliate margin that is retained by Monivo as a referral commission; this margin is included in the rate shown, not added on top. Provider spreads and applicable network costs are also reflected in the quoted amount.

Network fees are set by the blockchain, not by Monivo. No account, no subscription and no withdrawal charge. Live support is available 24/7.
