The story behind PIVX

Forked from Dash in 2016 as Darknet and renamed PIVX, the project made two early bets: proof-of-stake instead of mining, and privacy that any holder could use. It adopted the Zerocoin protocol, hit the same inflation-bug class that struck other Zerocoin chains, and rebuilt on SHIELD, a Sapling-derived scheme. Development has been funded continuously by its own on-chain treasury rather than by an investor round.

PIVX is spent as private digital cash — shielded balances hide amounts and participants — and staked directly from a wallet to earn block rewards without specialist hardware. Masternodes provide network services, vote on treasury spending and receive a share of rewards. The community leans heavily toward everyday spendability rather than DeFi.
