The story behind 0G

0G Labs launched in 2024–2025 with substantial funding behind a specific argument: existing data-availability layers were built to carry rollup transaction data, and simply were not designed to handle the sheer throughput that large AI models need to run efficiently on-chain.

Rather than retrofitting an existing chain, the team built infrastructure purpose-designed around AI-scale data volumes from the start, betting that AI workloads would eventually need dedicated blockchain infrastructure of their own.

What 0G is used for

0G is what you pay for high-throughput data availability, for storing model weights and training datasets on the network, and for accessing its serving layer, which lets applications run AI inference with on-chain verification of the results. That verification matters because it lets an application prove an AI model actually produced a given output, rather than asking users to simply trust an opaque, centralised black box.

0G in the market today

0G competes with Celestia and EigenDA on general data availability while positioning itself specifically for the AI segment of that demand, a narrower but potentially larger bet if on-chain AI adoption grows as its backers expect.

That bet remains unproven at real scale: on-chain AI is still an early, largely experimental category, and demand for AI-specific blockchain infrastructure could just as easily consolidate around general-purpose providers instead.
