The story behind MultiversX

Founded in Romania as Elrond in 2017, the project launched its mainnet in July 2020 with adaptive state sharding as its central technical bet — a way to scale a blockchain by dividing the work rather than simply making each block bigger.

The late-2022 rebrand to MultiversX came alongside a deliberate widening of ambition into gaming and digital identity, and the team built out xPortal, a mobile wallet, and xExchange, a decentralised exchange, as flagship applications meant to keep users inside its own ecosystem rather than routing them elsewhere.
