The story behind Flare

Flare launched in 2023 after a long, closely watched distribution of tokens to XRP holders, positioning itself as the smart-contract layer for assets — like XRP, Bitcoin and Dogecoin — whose home chains were never built to run programmable applications.

Its two core pieces, the FTSO price oracle and the State Connector, are secured by the same validators who run the chain itself, folding a job usually outsourced to a separate committee into the base protocol, on the theory that reusing the chain's existing validator set for oracle duty is both cheaper and more resistant to manipulation than trusting a smaller, separate group of price reporters.

What FLR is used for
