The story behind ICON

Seoul-based ICONLOOP launched ICON in 2017 and worked closely on government and enterprise blockchain projects within Korea, including vaccine passport systems and university certificate verification — practical, unglamorous applications that suited the project's institutional focus. It later released the Blockchain Transmission Protocol as a general-purpose cross-chain messaging standard, offered for other networks to adopt rather than kept proprietary to ICON alone.
