About Render (RENDER)
Decentralised compute networkRender (RENDER) connects people who need heavy graphics or AI computation with people whose GPUs are sitting idle, turning spare hardware into a paid marketplace and cutting the cost of rendering work that used to require expensive studio infrastructure.
The story behind Render
Jules Urbach spent decades building OTOY's rendering software for Hollywood productions before he asked the obvious question: why does every studio need to own enough GPU capacity for its busiest day, when most days that hardware sits unused? Render launched on Ethereum in 2020 to pool that idle capacity, then moved to Solana in late 2023 chasing lower fees and faster settlement for what is, at its core, a payments problem — matching jobs to machines and settling instantly between strangers who have never met and don't need to trust each other. What started narrowly as 3D rendering has since widened to cover AI inference and other GPU-hungry workloads that face the same bottleneck, as demand for machine-learning compute has made idle GPU time an increasingly valuable thing to sell.
What RENDER is used for
As a node operator, you earn RENDER for completed jobs; as a customer, you spend it to get rendering or compute work done without owning the hardware yourself, which matters if you only need serious GPU power occasionally rather than year-round. Payments burn tokens while new emissions reward providers, a burn-and-mint design meant to tie the token's supply to how much real work is actually flowing through the network rather than to speculation alone, so heavier real usage should, in principle, shrink net issuance over time.
Render in the market today
Render is one of the larger decentralised compute networks and a common shorthand for the AI-plus-crypto trade, but it is not alone: io.net, Akash and Aethir are chasing the same pool of underused GPUs, and whichever network aggregates the deepest, cheapest supply is likely to keep the edge. Render's head start in studio relationships and its established job-matching infrastructure are real advantages, but the underlying resource — spare GPU capacity — is not exclusive to any one network, and centralised cloud providers with far larger balance sheets could still undercut the entire category on price.
