BSV split from Bitcoin Cash in November 2018 during a contentious hash war, driven largely by Craig Wright and Calvin Ayre's claim that it restored the 'original' Bitcoin protocol as they believed it was meant to be. Several major exchanges delisted the coin in 2019 after Wright threatened legal action against critics who disputed his claim to be Bitcoin's pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. That claim was tested directly in 2024, when a UK High Court ruled decisively that Wright was not, in fact, Satoshi Nakamoto.
