About First Digital USD (FDUSD)
StablecoinFirst Digital USD (FDUSD) is a US-dollar stablecoin issued from Hong Kong by First Digital Labs, fully reserved in cash and short-term instruments held with regulated custodians and attested monthly.
The story behind First Digital USD
FDUSD launched in June 2023 into a gap that had just opened: BUSD was being wound down after New York regulators ordered Paxos to stop minting it, and the largest exchange in the world needed a dollar token that was not a US regulatory dependency. An Asia-based issuer with reserves outside the US banking system was the answer, and adoption was immediate and enormous — largely because zero-fee trading pairs pointed at it.
What FDUSD is used for
FDUSD is used mainly for trading pairs and settlement on centralised exchanges, and for holding dollars on-chain across Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana. Redemption is available to verified institutional clients, with retail exposure typically coming through exchange balances.
First Digital USD in the market today
FDUSD is one of the larger stablecoins by supply, with a concentration risk it makes no attempt to hide: demand is dominated by a small number of venues, and a fee-structure change can move its supply sharply. A brief depeg in 2025 following public claims about the issuer — which the issuer disputed and reserves attestations did not corroborate — is a reminder that stablecoin confidence is a reflexive asset in itself.
