The story behind Global Dollar

Paxos launched USDG in late 2024 alongside the Global Dollar Network, a consortium of exchanges and fintech firms formed specifically to distribute the token widely. The revenue-sharing design was a direct response to the standard stablecoin business model, in which the issuer alone earns and keeps the interest on the Treasuries and cash backing every token — a model USDG's backers argued left the distributors who actually brought users no stake in the token's success.

What USDG is used for

You would use USDG for trading, payments and settlement across the various partner platforms that support it, with backing held in cash and short-term US government securities and confirmed through monthly attestations. Eligible holders can redeem one-to-one either through the issuer directly or through its distribution partners, depending on where you originally acquired it.
