About Uniswap (UNI)
DeFi tokenUniswap (UNI) is the governance token of the largest decentralised exchange, the automated market maker that made permissionless token trading standard across every EVM-compatible chain. UNI votes on protocol upgrades and treasury spending rather than paying trading fees itself.
The story behind Uniswap
Hayden Adams built Uniswap in November 2018 from an idea Vitalik Buterin had sketched out publicly, turning a fairly abstract concept — pricing assets through a simple mathematical formula rather than an order book — into working software almost single-handedly. Version 2 launched in 2020, and UNI arrived that September as an airdrop to every past user, a defensive move made in response to a competing fork that threatened to siphon off Uniswap's liquidity by copying its code and adding a token incentive Uniswap itself lacked. Version 3 introduced concentrated liquidity in 2021, letting liquidity providers focus their capital around specific price ranges, and version 4 added customisable hooks in 2025, opening the protocol to far more specialised trading logic.
What UNI is used for
Holding UNI lets you vote on protocol upgrades, treasury spending, and notably the long-debated 'fee switch' that could redirect a share of trading fees from liquidity providers to UNI holders themselves. As things stand, though, UNI plays no role in the trading fees you would actually pay when swapping tokens on Uniswap — those go entirely to liquidity providers, not to the token that governs the protocol.
Uniswap in the market today
Uniswap has processed trillions of dollars in cumulative trading volume and remains the reference decentralised exchange against which newer competitors are measured. It now faces real competition, though, from trade aggregators that route orders across multiple venues, order-book-style decentralised exchanges, and fast-growing Solana-based venues all chasing the same order flow Uniswap once had largely to itself.

Fees and pricing
Zero added fees: Monivo does not add a platform fee, a minimum or a withdrawal charge — the rate you see is the rate you get. Blockchain network fees are shown in full before you confirm, and the final amount you receive is quoted up front.
Monivo does not add a separate fee or markup to the provider quote. Monivo may earn a commission from the liquidity provider when a completed swap is referred through our platform. Provider spreads and applicable network costs are reflected in the quoted amount.
Network fees are set by the blockchain, not by Monivo. No account, no subscription and no withdrawal charge. Live support is available 24/7.
